Today, ROAM as champion in TerraFund for AFR100 through the project “Landscape Restoration for Resilient and Sustainable Farming Systems Project in Rutsiro District,” is proud to share voices from the field where farmers are not only planting trees but also are investing in the future of their land, their families, and their communities.
These stories highlight the progress being made through agroforestry and sustainable land management practices, including soil health improvement, erosion control, enhanced farm productivity. As the restoration journey continues, these experiences demonstrate the promising changes already taking place across the landscape restoration.

Experience sharing by Mr. Mucyo Mathias(farmer)
Mr. Mucyo Mathias, a farmer from Cyarusera Cell, Cyahafi Village, Mushubati Sector, is project beneficiary has integrated 1,500 agroforestry trees, including Leucaena, Grevillea, and Persea americana into his farm. As the trees continue to grow,” Mr. Mucyo shared has already observed positive changes on his farm, particularly improved soil water holding capacity, which he believes will contribute to increase his crop productivity in the coming seasons.

Mr. Jean Damour Muhawenimana, a farmer from Mageragere Cell, Rushikiri Village, Mushubati Sector, integrated 2,150 agroforestry trees into his farm, including Calliandra, Leucaena, Markhamia, Mangifera indica, and Persea americana, Since 2026, he has observed positive changes on his farm, particularly soil restoration specifically on the riverbank. As his restoration efforts continue, he is witnessing the benefits of planting trees on the riparian area for landscape restoration. Reflecting on his experience, he shared: "Today, I use Leucaena and Calliandra tree branches and leaves as supports for climbing beans and as fodder for my livestock."
